Jesus' mysterious boat discovered in the Sea of Galilee

A large ancient wooden boat discovered in Israel has been dubbed the "Jesus Boat" after historians linked the vessel to Jesus' most famous miracle, according to the Daily Mail.

"It's a 2,000-year-old boat from the Sea of Galilee, the type of boat mentioned in the Gospels, and sized for about 12 people," said biblical archaeology expert Danny Herman.

"It can actually be linked to one of the most famous stories that every Christian knows, the story of Jesus walking on water and calming the storm on the lake," he said.

Archaeologist Dr. Kurt Raveh pointed out that the date of the boat's construction can be traced from the first century BC to the first century AD, but it can never be proven that Jesus was in the boat or could have seen it, as about 600 boats were plying this lake at that time!

The boat was discovered in 1986 during a severe drought that exposed the coastline of the Sea of Galilee near Magdala. Brothers Moshe and Yuval Lufan, amateur archaeologists from Kibbutz Ginosar, noticed iron nails in the mud with a metal detector.

While digging, an oval-shaped wooden object was uncovered, buried for nearly 2,000 years. Marine archaeologists confirmed its construction in the Roman era.

The ship's flat-bottomed design, ideal for fishing, and repairs made with cheaper local wood suggest it belonged to poor fishermen, matching the Gospel accounts of Jesus' disciples.

A cooking pot and an oil lamp found nearby tell of a night journey, mirroring the Gospel account. Its preservation took 16 years, replacing the mud with a transparent chemical solution to prevent decay.

Since 2000, it has been on display at the Yigal Allon Museum in Ginosar, attracting Christian pilgrims and history enthusiasts.
