United States President Donald Trump has ordered US Central Command to launch military strikes against Iran in response to the killing of two American soldiers at a military base in Jordan.
According to US officials, for almost a week, US forces have carried out daily attacks on military targets and infrastructure, mainly in southern Iran, in the area near the Strait of Hormuz.
International media reports that President Trump has warned of a harsh response to Tehran, declaring that "the gates of hell will open" against Iran.
At the same time, the US State Department has issued a global security warning, urging US citizens, especially those in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution due to the risk of further escalation of the conflict.
"The security environment remains complex, with the potential for unpredictable escalation. We remind American citizens of the need for continued vigilance. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Middle East, have been targeted, and groups supporting Iran may strike U.S. interests or United States-affiliated targets around the world," the State Department said in a statement.
The escalation comes after two American soldiers were killed on Friday in Jordan during a missile and drone attack, which American authorities said was carried out by Iran.
Another soldier is missing in action, while four soldiers were injured and treated in Jordanian hospitals, where they were later released. Other soldiers who suffered minor injuries have returned to duty.
The situation remains extremely tense, while the international community is following developments with concern, fearing that the conflict could spread to the entire Middle East region.
