Pentagon fires general who led strategic planning, Trump warns of another "Epic Rage" against Iran!

The Pentagon has fired the head of strategic planning for the US Joint Chiefs of Staff in a surprise shake-up, according to a report in The Atlantic magazine. The move comes as Donald Trump appears to be preparing to repeat large-scale attacks on Iran.

Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia has been relieved of his duties as director of strategy, strategic planning and strategic policy at the Army Joint Staff, according to the report, which cited unidentified Pentagon officials.

If confirmed, Sylvia's dismissal would be the latest in a series of military leadership departures since Donald Trump returned to power in early 2025.

Last month, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the United States had reduced the number of generals and admirals by 20%, a move he said was intended to make them "accountable."

Hegseth called the process a "success" and suggested that the firings targeted officers who did not support his efforts to orient the military toward combat, rather than the "smart policies of previous administrations."

According to The Atlantic, no reason was given for Brett Sylvia's dismissal and a replacement has not yet been named. The Pentagon declined to comment when asked by AFP.

Trump warns of another "Epic Rage" against Iran

The firing of the head of strategic planning for the US Army's Joint Chiefs of Staff comes at a time when many observers believe Trump is planning new attacks on Iran after the midterm elections on November 3.

“We could have another little ‘Epic Rage,’” Trump said last week, referring to the US-Israeli attacks that triggered the war with Iran last February. He did not give a specific timeframe.

Before taking up his latest assignment, Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia had served as commander of the US Army's 101st Airborne Division, as well as leading a US Army unit in Iraq.
