"Berisha has taught us not to retreat"/ former head of FRPD, Durrës: Membership, disconnected from leadership. Messages not to attend the meeting were a mistake
Artion Barjamaj, former chairman of the FRPD in Durres, commented on the Off the Record show on A2 CNN about the internal developments of the Democratic Party and the recently organized large-scale meeting with local structures. He described the event as “a very important evening” with massive participation, emphasizing that the Democrats seek communication, not confrontation.
Barjamaj said that the organizing group is not seeking to blame anyone, but aims to open a process of reflection within the DP. “We want to see what has been done well and what has not, to bring about a competitive democratic party that gives hope,” he said.
Although he himself did not experience pressure not to attend the meeting, he acknowledged that such messages were distributed, describing them as a "hasty political step."
The former FRPD leader stressed that internal democracy is essential for the resurgence of the DP and that members must be able to gather and speak freely. He added that the situation in the country is alarming, due to crime, drugs, lack of justice and the arrogance of the government, which makes it even more urgent to unite the opposition.
Barjamaj thanked Sali Berisha as the historical leader of the DP, emphasizing that the participants had not come out to attack or harm his figure, but to build a bridge of communication with the leadership.
Regarding Berisha's statement, who said that "meetings outside forums are not recognized," Barjamaj responded that challenges do not scare him. "He himself has taught us not to retreat in the face of challenges," he said.
