Degradation of Cultural Heritage in Elbasan, Karabina: A City Deserves More Attention

The rich historical and cultural heritage of the city of Elbasan continues to be threatened by a lack of institutional care. The Euro-Atlantic Coalition candidate for MP in the Elbasan district, Mirela Karabina, has raised concerns about the degradation of historical buildings and educational institutions that constitute the city's identity.
The Elbasan Castle, an extraordinary monument dating back 2000 years and a symbol of the city, is losing its authenticity and historical values due to modern constructions that do not match the traditional architecture. Mirela Karabina emphasizes that institutions have neglected the preservation of the city's heritage, allowing the damage to this irreplaceable asset.
“Elbasan is the city of education and culture. It is unfortunate that a city with a long educational tradition does not have a museum of education today,” said Karabina. She also mentions iconic historical buildings such as the Elbasan Normal School and the former schools “Kostandin Kristoforidhi”, “Dhimitër Tushpina” and “Ahmet Dakli”, which have been left in oblivion, without any identifying sign.
According to the candidate, these institutions have educated generations of distinguished intellectuals, so they deserve due care and institutional appreciation. She proposes a concrete project for the revitalization of the historic area of the Castle and the creation of the Museum of Education, as part of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition program, thus turning the city into an important tourist and cultural center.
"History and education are invaluable assets that define the identity of a city and a nation. We must protect these values, not only to respect the past, but to guarantee a better future for generations to come," said Karabina.

The Elbasan Castle, which dates back 2000 years, has a rich history and is one of the main symbols of the city. One of the buildings has been the "Normaja" of Elbasan for years, later the former "Kostandin Kristoforidhi" school, the former "Dhimitër Tushpina" and the former "Ahmet Dakli" are buildings in degradation and can no longer be identified as such, you can't see a plaque or identifying writing anywhere.
As educational institutions with a long history and national importance, it is unfortunate that they have been left in a deplorable state.
These schools have produced many excellent students, teachers and intellectuals and deserve special care.
The history, the valuable heritage in education and culture of the city of Elbasan have been left to the mercy of time.
