"Democrats can meet, it's not heresy", Lisandër Hoxha: We need a reaction like in Bulgaria, the "Balluku" scandal is an alarming signal for society and democracy in the country

Member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Lisandër Hoxha, invited to the News24 studio , commented on the recent developments within the opposition, focusing on the speeches organized by Sali Berisha as well as the meetings of former MP Ervin Salianji. He emphasized that meetings between Democrats are natural and that internal debate is a necessary part of the party's functioning.
According to Hoxha, the recent meeting that was widely commented on publicly was “exaggerated.” “Democrats meet and can meet, it is not heresy. We drink coffee with each other every day, we share concerns, political views, this is normal. This meeting became an exaggerated legend,” he said, adding that criticism within the DP is healthy and necessary.
Hoxha divided the Democrats into two categories: the electorate, which according to him perceives what the leadership offers, and the party structures, which have often been at odds with the expectations of voters. He recalled that in 2021, some of the structures “hypocritically embraced Basha, as if the DP had won,” while the electorate clearly showed what it wanted through the rostrum movement. “This movement produced great hope in Albania, if it had not been hindered, the Reestablishment would be complete today and Rama would not be in government,” he said.
Speaking about the current situation, Hoxha said that the dissatisfaction in the party is related to decisions that he described as “wrong” in the approach to the government. “You cannot legitimize someone who stole the elections by going to Parliament; you have to encourage them until they repeat it,” he stressed.
He raised concerns that the National Council has not met for months, recalling that the last meeting was in March. “The bodies must meet. Political discussion and the circulation of elites are necessary. The structure can win any internal battle, but if this contradicts what the electorate demands, then there is a serious problem,” Hoxha declared.
Referring to the corruption allegations and the Belinda Balluku text message scandal, Hoxha stressed that the opposition should react more forcefully. "Citizens' money has been stolen in a scandalous manner. The opposition should have reacted like in Bulgaria. I support every protest, but the protests should be held in front of the Prime Minister's Office. With the fall of Rama, all the corrupt fall," he said.
In closing, Hoxha warned that after the publication of Balluk's messages, the fact that "nothing is happening" is an alarming signal for society and democracy in the country. "We must orient society towards a strong reaction," he concluded.
