Former Democratic Party MP Edmond Spaho has reacted publicly by explaining the reasons why his name was not included in the lists of candidates for the Democratic Party's National Council.
Spaho states that after the May 11, 2025 elections, which he describes as "catastrophic" for the opposition, he has resigned from the Presidency, National Council and Secretariat of the Democratic Party, considering this an act of personal responsibility for the electoral defeat.
According to him, allegations of "election fraud" are just a way to avoid political responsibility for the result, while accusing the current opposition leaders of a lack of responsibility and attempts to preserve their positions and privileges.
"With this political behavior and this leadership team that the DP has, it is easier to go to the moon than to come to power," Spaho said in his reaction.
He adds that the Democratic Party is in one of its most difficult moments, accusing a group within it of a lack of principles and political responsibility.
At the end of his statement, Spaho warns that those who, according to him, have contributed to this situation will be held responsible for their actions and political consequences in the future.

"For all those who have contacted me and asked me why my name was not on the lists of candidates for the DP National Council.
After the disastrous elections of May 11, 2025, I am the only individual in the DP who has resigned from the Presidency, National Council, and Secretariat of the DP.
I took this action as a sign of responsibility for the deep defeat that the DP suffered in these elections, falling 300,000 votes behind the SP.
The allegations of "stealing" the elections are nothing more than a masquerade to avoid responsibility for the deepest defeat the DP has suffered since its founding.
This masquerade is done only to preserve the positions and privileges of the current opposition leaders, who shamelessly continue to sell themselves as fighters and missionaries for the return of the DP to power.
With deep regret, but with this political behavior and with this leadership team that the DP has, it is easier to go to the moon than to come to power.
The DP is in its darkest hour today, gripped by a group of people without principles and conscience, who have put their own interests above those of the country and society.
"They should be convinced that no matter how long they prolong their collaboration with Rama and the agony of this regime, one day they will be held accountable for the suffering they have caused and the thefts they have committed against this people and this country," Spaho declares.
