Speech before the EPP group/Berisha in Strasbourg: Rama feels like a sheikh, his representatives met with the mafia in Aruba!
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in his speech before the EPP group at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, declared that the greatest existential danger for Albanians is drugs and the country's transformation into a narcotics state.
Berisha denounced the government's pressure on the media, recalling the case when a television station critical of the government was surrounded by police and the army, while computers with files against ministers were seized. The democratic leader said that the Constitution and rules have also been openly violated in Parliament, as the government's program was voted on in just 28 minutes without debate.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during his speech said that the government has set up a system of wiretapping and censorship, while the prime minister behaves like an "emir" who dismisses mayors at will, eliminating local autonomy.
Berisha also touched on the links with drug cartels, emphasizing that the Italian anti-mafia has discovered a meeting of Albanian government representatives in Aruba with drug lords to invest in Albania. "Albanian cartels determine the price of cocaine in Europe. Only two people trafficked 28 tons of cocaine from Paraguay to Rotterdam and Antwerp," Berisha said.
"A narco-state is not only a threat to the nation in which it is located, but to the region and Europe," Berisha said, among other things.
"There are several developments in the same direction. So, one of the few television stations critical of the regime, one night found itself surrounded by police and the army. They did not allow journalists inside, despite the court's decision.
However, the Prime Minister was not worried. They seized the computers where investigative journalists had files against ministers. And to this day, the court decision has not been implemented. They are not in their premises. There is a terrible pressure on the media. But the same thing happens in Parliament.
Mr. President, the new government and its program, the four-year program, were voted on in 28 minutes. 28 minutes. On the basis of a well-prepared script. Violating the Constitution, also violating the rules of Parliament. They voted on the orders of the Prime Minister in the hall. They voted in 28 minutes.
This was the debate. When we, as the opposition, requested a motion for debate on the government program, it was rejected. The constitutional rights and the rights that stem from the rules of Parliament of the deputies are not respected at all.
Now, after that, there's a lot of evidence that they installed a deep web surveillance system. At one point, they blocked TikTok. We're verifying it, but there's very clear, crystal clear evidence that this happened.
The Prime Minister feels like a sheikh or an emir, who goes from city to city and dismisses his own mayors, advisors and directors. We have notified the Congress of Authorities, they will bring a mission earlier to see the situation, because there is no autonomy, there is no autonomy of local government.
Mr. President, this has become completely normal here.
Friends talked about different threats, the Russian threat, the other threat, the other threat. For Albanians, the biggest existential threat is drugs. The truth is, the truth is, we will inform you, esteemed colleagues, with documents and materials, but what has come out? It has come out from the Italian anti-mafia that representatives of the Albanian government have had a meeting in Aruba with the highest drug cartels.
What was the purpose of the meeting? The purpose was an agreement to invest their money in Albania. But anyone who comes to Albania or looks at Eurostat data will find that the construction index in Albania is three times higher than the average for the European Union. While industry, agriculture are declining, they are in recession.
And the international report on the elections has not yet been released. The Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister themselves are directly involved in exerting pressure on international observers to change the first preliminary report.
I don't know what will happen. These are developments, not positive ones, but we are trying to do our best. That's it.
A narco-state is not only a major threat to the nation it is located in, but to the region and to Europe. Recent data shows that Albanian drug cartels set the price of cocaine throughout Europe.
Just one person, two people, were found to have trafficked 28 tons of cocaine from Paraguay to Rotterdam and, I think, also to Antwerp and Belgium in one year.
"These are developments, not positive, but we are trying to do our best. That is it," said the leader of the DP.
