Gaz Bardhi reassures Berisha: I have no ambition to become the leader of the DP!

Invited to the show "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews Albania, the head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, commented on the current situation in the DP and reacted to questions about the non-implementation of the so-called "Basha" article, which provides for the resignation of the president after losing the elections.

In his explanation, Bardhi said that he has been against this article since it was proposed in 2021 and remains against it today, although it is part of the DP statute.

According to Bardhi, resignation should not come as a result of a statutory article, but as a conscious and conscientious act of the individual.

"That article has been opposed by me since it was proposed in 2021. For me, it is an undemocratic article, which gives the Democratic Party the characteristics of an undemocratic party. Responsibility is an individual process. Resignation is a voluntary act of the individual, not imposed by the rule. Similarly, departures should be a human process, evaluation and analysis - not dictated by formal rules in a statute. This rule is mechanical and provides mechanical solutions. Today, the DP does not need mechanical solutions, but logical solutions," he said.

Further, journalist Erla Mëhilli asked him directly if he would run for president of the Democratic Party, while Bardhi said that he has no ambition to lead the party at this moment.

"I stand by the same answer I gave last year, the year before... Because you always ask me about this. No, I have no ambition to lead the Democratic Party at this moment we are talking," said Bardhi.

Finally, Bardhi spoke about the opposition's strategy, saying that it will be combined with elements of confrontation and political battle, with the provision of a credible alternative as an opposition that is in the Assembly to be the voice and defender of the interests of Albanian citizens.
