Here's why Berisha lies about Basha's "Black Book" and why his denial served Edi Rama

Sali Berisha is seeking to build a new truth for the 2021 elections, that Lulzim Basha did not defend them, that the DP did nothing serious and that everything was let fall. The problem is that this thesis contradicts the documented facts, and with the very history that the DP has left written, which is known inside and outside the country.
In 2021, the Democratic Party led by Basha set up a working group, prepared files, filed complaints, drafted reports and produced the “Black Book” of the elections, a voluminous material (537 pages), publicly published and distributed not only in Albania, but also in Western chancelleries.
Moreover, SYRI, Berisha's personal media, also covered that work as a legal battle and as documentation of violations.
The black file/ DP has almost 10 complaints and a 500-page book of violations

So, when Berisha says today that "Basha did not defend the elections", he is not mistaken out of ignorance, he says this knowing the truth.
But the second contradiction is even more serious. Berisha today declares that the DP "won" the 2021 elections.
This contradicts the entire narrative of the Foltores, where he built his attack on Basha on the idea that the DP did not win, that the loss was not a theft of power, but a bargain, a betrayal, a sale. That today's word ("we won") dismantles the very argument he used to justify the greatest division of the opposition and to raise a personal cause on the back of an entire party.
And here comes the crux of the matter, the Foltorja was not a principled battle, but an unprincipled attack on Berisha's personal interest after being declared non grata. Instead of focusing the opposition's energy on the April 25 process, on the facts, the violations, the institutions and international partners, the national debate was diverted into an internal quarrel, with promises that were never kept by Berisha (primary, meritocracy, the Basha article, election victory for 6 months, sustainable protests not "walks like Basha's", etc. etc.) This diversion served only one man, Edi Rama.
Because Rama found it much easier to relativize the accusations about the elections when within the DP itself, its historical leader, said that "they didn't steal them, they sold them." He saved himself from accountability. And the opposition lost time, morale and focus, being consumed in internal war, while the country needed a battle for a free vote with international partners on its side, who were on its side when Basha was in power, and who, with Berisha's return, no longer set foot in the headquarters.
Today, when Berisha seeks to turn the 2021 elections into a new rhetorical card, he is doing what he has often done, rewriting the past according to the interest of the moment. But the facts are stubborn, the Black Book was made, published and sent abroad. And precisely because it was made, the lie that "the elections were not protected" comes out not as a mistake, but as a strategy. A strategy that yesterday served the problem of non grata, today serves the problem of his political legitimacy, and in both cases, it serves Rama./ Alfapress.al
