Ervin Salianji held a press conference to talk about Saturday's referendum in the Democratic Party, where Berisha was reconfirmed as leader of the party, as expected.
Salianji says that the figures made public by Berisha and the DP are falsified, as no more than 5,000 party members participated in the elections, unlike the figure of 37,000 as stated by the leaders of the blue headquarters.
Salianji emphasizes that the Democrats have massively abandoned the Berisha farce. According to him, the Democrats and Albanian citizens demand democratic standards and real competition, which the current DP with Berisha at the helm cannot provide.

Unfortunately for all citizens, what happened with the DP and with this process had nothing to do with a political competition but a competition controlled by Sali Berisha. It violated the most basic standards of the DP. I was excluded, who was allowed to run by statute, and Berisha was allowed, who was not supposed to. Every decision made by Berisha is null and void. Alternative candidacies were prevented.
As soon as I started to express criticism of the leadership of the DP, a barrage of attacks began not only to stifle dissenting opinions but also to scare away any potential competitor. We have seen that the deadlines and procedures were handled without transparency. A term referendum was invented that does not exist in the statute. Instead of the DP opening after losing the elections, the party was treated like a shop, like a business that brings in income. A party that does not accept the competition cannot even convince Albanians. We demand democratic standards, we cannot be like Edi Rama. The problem is not an individual, given that I am 36 years after the fall of the dictatorship. My effort has been to collapse a political model that stands by force. The Democrats have not sacrificed for decisions that are made by a closed circle. We need a DP where the rules are respected. Where the competition is real and no one is above the statute.
Any force that refuses renewal ends up losing civic support. This is a battle for standards and for restoring trust in Albanians. It is unfair to ask Albanian citizens not to conform to the regime. While they do not have the courage and the courage to run for the leadership of the DP. We do not call on intellectuals to react to autocracy with a DP where those who have a privilege do not have the courage to speak out.
The real figures are totally different from those published by Berisha. The figures show a massive abandonment of the process by the Democrats. It turned out that in the end, they declared that there were 50 thousand members. The rest was more than minimal participation. No more than 5 thousand members participated.
