Voting for the People's Advocate, the DP withdraws signatures for all

The Democratic Party has withdrawn its support for Endri Shabani for the position of Ombudsman. The decision was made today at a meeting of the Democratic Party's parliamentary group.

Shabani's candidacy was made official with 35 votes from opposition MPs, meaning the majority are signatures from MPs from the Democratic Party, who will now withdraw.

According to them, the signatures of the deputies were given before the qualification of the candidates by the Laws Committee and after the Committee's decision, the opposition deputies withdrew all the signatures given in advance, and proposed the construction of a transparent majority-opposition selection process.

"Due to the media's interest in the candidates for People's Advocate, we would like to clarify that:

The signatures of opposition MPs were provided before the candidates were qualified by the Laws Committee, despite the fact that the candidates themselves submitted them to the Assembly and some of them used them in violation of the law as a proposal for voting (which is not true) within the meaning of Article 9 of the Law on the Ombudsman.

Following the decision of the Laws Committee, which was officially notified to the parliamentary groups, that "1 MP supports only 1 candidate according to the law", the opposition MPs have withdrawn all previously given signatures, and have proposed the construction of a transparent majority-opposition selection process. We remain awaiting the institutional response of the Speaker of the Assembly to proceed further.

"The withdrawal of signatures is officially deposited in the Assembly," writes the DP.
