Alarming figures in Kosovo! 17 murders from January to September 2026

Within a short period, Gjilan has faced two serious tragedies, which took the lives of three people and raised new concerns regarding security and the spread of violence in society.

The first case was registered on Friday in Livoç i Ulët, where a man is suspected of killing his wife and her brother. After the incident, the suspect was handed over to law enforcement agencies, while the court ordered him to be detained for 30 days.

Another tragedy occurred on Sunday in the village of Pogragja, where a father is suspected of killing his son. Unlike the first case, the suspect in this incident remains at large.

According to Kosovo Police statistics, published by Klankosova, from January to September of this year, 17 murder cases were recorded. Of these, 12 were classified as serious murders, while two cases were classified as manslaughter.

In 2025, a total of 17 murders were recorded nationwide.

These serious events bring attention back to the tragic consequences of violence and conflicts that end in loss of life. Prevention of such cases, timely identification of dangerous situations and appropriate intervention remain issues of particular importance for society.
