Scientists created a mini 'Big Bang' at CERN

Physicists at CERN have created a microscopic version of conditions similar to those of the early Universe.

They collided atomic nuclei at speeds very close to the speed of light, producing quark-gluon plasma, an extreme state of matter thought to have existed immediately after the Big Bang.

What makes the experiment particularly interesting is that the researchers managed to create this state using relatively small nuclei.

The experiments can help physicists better understand how matter was organized in the early stages of the Universe's existence.
