Angelina Jolie details divorce from Brad Pitt, asks for $33,000

Angelina Jolie has provided details about her divorce from Brad Pitt in a new lawsuit over their French home, Château Miraval. The actress spoke about the split in a statement filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court in response to her ex's request that she release their private messages in the property dispute.

"The events leading up to my need to separate from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children. Until filing for divorce, I left him full control and residency of our homes in Los Angeles and Miraval without compensation, hoping it would ease his dealings with me after a difficult and traumatic period."

Jolie says their six children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17, "have never set foot" in Miraval again due to "the connection to the painful events that led to the divorce."

"After the separation, I immediately began looking for a new home for myself and our children, initially renting a house while I looked for a more permanent solution," she added.

The 61-year-old accuses her of her share in the property, saying she sold it to Stoli Group without his permission. The actress says she didn't need his approval.

She explains that her savings were "located in Miraval" and she had not asked her ex-husband for "help or financial support," so she needed the money.

"I was very worried about the health of our children, so for about two years I refused to work so that I could focus on caring for the children and their recovery," she said.

Jolie says she was so tight financially that she couldn't afford a house in Los Angeles, so Pitt agreed to lend her money "with interest."

She said that in early 2017 she had discussions with Pitt about selling her share to him, but the talks were "always difficult" for her because of her "strong emotional ties" to the house and "the end of their relationship."

"Miraval was one of our first big investments together and a milestone in our family life. We got married there, I spent part of my pregnancy there, and I brought the twins home. Leaving my home and memories so suddenly was hard, and it was especially hard on the children to have their lives disrupted."

Angelina is seeking $33,000 from Pitt to cover legal costs she had to pay to respond to the actor's request to hand over their messages.

“Jolie, through counsel, repeatedly asked Pitt to withdraw the motion. She also warned him several times that if the court dismissed her motion, Jolie would ask the court to order Pitt to pay her attorneys’ fees for opposing the motion.”

It continues: “Pitt again refused. Jolie is asking the court to order Pitt to reimburse her for the attorneys’ fees she was forced to produce.” Pitt said in legal documents that he is seeking the messages after Alexei Oliynik of Stoli Group has refused to comply with the demands.
