Albania cancels Brazilian meat imports, decision enters into force today

As of today, Albania officially bans the import of meat from Brazil. This decision comes after the National Food Authority announced a few days ago that the measure was taken following the removal of this country from the list of authorized countries by the EU.
The decision to ban imports was taken due to the failure to provide the necessary safety guarantees for the use of antibiotics and growth stimulants for animals. However, poultry and beef consignments with certificates issued before September 3 will continue to be accepted even if they arrive after this date.
For more than two decades, Albania has been buying meat and its by-products from Brazil, making this country the top importer of this product. According to estimates, based on INSTAT data, from January to June a total of 23 thousand tons of meat were purchased, worth 46.3 million euros, where 34.6% of these supplies were from Brazil.
