Sad/ Known as the "Palestinian Pele", former national team striker is killed in an attack in Gaza

The world of sports mourns another victim of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The Palestinian Football Federation (PFF) has announced with deep sorrow the death of Suleiman Al-Obeid, a former national team striker, who died at the age of 41 during an Israeli attack in the southern Gaza Strip while waiting for humanitarian aid.
Known as the "Palestinian Pele," Al-Obeid leaves behind five children and a footballing legacy rich in talent and national pride.
His career began with Khadamat Al-Shati, before moving on to Al-Amari in the West Bank and Club Deportivo Gaza. With over 100 goals, including a spectacular header against Yemen in 2010, Al-Obeid was one of the brightest stars in Palestinian football, playing 24 games for the national team and finishing as the top scorer in the local league twice (2015-16 and 2016-17).
The federation revealed that the number of football-related martyrs has reached 321, including players, coaches, managers and referees, since the start of the conflict last October. The total number of deaths in Palestinian sports has risen to 662. Al-Obeid's death represents not only a sporting loss, but also a symbolic one, a man who embodied hope and resilience through sport in a context marked by war and suffering.
