Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has appeared pleased with the 2026 World Cup draw, which placed his team in Group F, alongside Japan, Tunisia and the winner of the European play-off, which also includes Albania.
He called this a "good shot," saying he was "pleased" with the verdict the judges had given.
"All the groups are quite balanced, including our group. Japan always has a well-prepared football team, with athleticism, Tunisia is a challenge for us at the moment."
"And the third team is from Europe and it could be Poland again, who we played in the qualifiers. A European team, at least, and we have a better chance of winning. We can be happy, although everything is a challenge. There are no more small countries," he said.
The Netherlands have long been preparing for the World Cup, and Koeman revealed that representatives from the federation had been in the US looking for a location for the team's base. Being in Group F, it is now known which part of the US the matches will be played in, or even in Mexico.
"It's very hot there, even worse in Monterrey, Mexico. We'll have to be careful. Our representatives have been to the US several times, we're travelling around looking at different locations and we need to decide on our final destination as soon as possible. We'll prepare in detail, anyway," the Netherlands coach said after the draw.
