Urgent warning to 1.8 billion Gmail users: Make these changes now

A big change is coming to Gmail, and ignoring it could put you at risk of losing access to your account completely.
The tech giant is tightening its account security measures, requiring almost all Gmail users to make key updates to their accounts.
The update will require users to enable 2-Step Verification, which involves their password and a second step, such as a smartphone notification, a verification app, or a security key.
Google has started sending users account-specific warning emails and login requests instructing them to take action.
These notifications often include customized time limits, which typically give 15 to 30 days to comply before access is restricted or blocked.
The move comes as part of a broader industry push to combat the flood of spam, phishing and fake emails that have become increasingly difficult to decipher from the real ones.
Google's artificial intelligence already filters most of it, but as cybercriminals become more sophisticated, the company is further strengthening its defenses.
A recent Google survey found that over 60 percent of users in the U.S. have noticed an increase in online scams, particularly via text messages and email. Nearly a third have personally experienced a data breach.
