Water utility warns car washes: You have until October 31st to disconnect water

The National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency has launched a national campaign to control the use of drinking water by car washes across the country. The Water Supply Code prohibits the use of drinking water for this activity.

Any car wash that uses public water has until October 31st to discontinue this practice, and all entities that used drinking water for car washes must provide a legal alternative source.

After this date, controls will be intensified and administrative measures provided for by law will be implemented, while the National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency warns that illegal interference in the network is a criminal offense.

The national action has been extended to all municipalities, as car washes are among the activities with the greatest negative impact on the water supply network and for this reason it is recommended that this type of business find other legal alternative methods for water supply.

Therefore, October 31 is the deadline for all these businesses to take voluntary measures to disconnect from the public network, otherwise they will face administrative measures.

Fludian Çuka, director of the National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency, has emphasized that there will be no tolerance for illegal connections.

"After this date, those who are in compliance with the law will continue to work, those who are not in compliance will face consequences. After October 31, we will go out into the field and take the necessary administrative measures to eliminate this phenomenon and to raise awareness of this type of business regarding this illegal connection," he said.
