Vlora Airport "hostage" in the courts, MACBO: We are excluded from decisions, international audit

The Swiss company MACBO Constructions, the majority shareholder with 98% of the capital in the Vlora International Airport company, has publicly expressed serious concern regarding the progress of the Vlora International Airport project, claiming that this strategic investment is facing serious legal and operational obstacles.
According to company representatives, the origin of the conflict is between the two shareholder companies of the company that has the concession contract with the Albanian state, MACBO with 98 percent and 2A Group with 2 percent, based on a contract for the sale of 47 percent of the shares from the largest shareholder to the smallest, something that MACBO does not admit to having happened. The case has gone through several stages of trial.
They say they do not have access to any development related to the airport and that they are demanding an international audit that will invest in the quality and technical aspects of the airport as a work of particular importance.
The Vlora airport concession has a 35-year term, while according to the contract, construction should have been completed in the spring of 2026.
If the case drags on, the company warns that it will pursue the matter in international arbitration.
