A 44-year-old man was arrested by Durrës police yesterday after being found drunk behind the wheel.
Rezart Abazaj collided with a police patrol yesterday and after an alcohol test, his blood alcohol level was 1.4 mg/l.
The incident occurred in the area of the former swamp, where two little girls lost their lives a short time ago after being hit by Nikoll Radaçi.
Journalist Xhensila Kodra has provided BalkanWeb with footage of Abazaj's collision with the police patrol, after the latter had been given a chase to stop him, following reports that a vehicle was moving in the area at high speed and making dangerous maneuvers. Abazaj appears to be a repeater of such incidents.
We recall that the accident caused by Nikoll Radaçi occurred at noon on May 3 in neighborhood no. 15 of Durrës. 3 children were playing with a ball on the sidewalk when the 57-year-old, while intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle and ran over the minors, leaving 2 of them dead.
EM, 12 years old, and KN, 10 years old, died, while the other child, 8 years old, managed to survive, but with serious injuries.
We recall that the driver had been reported to the police several times by residents of the area, and was also fined by the Road Traffic Department for violating safety regulations.
