Following the seizure of suspected eavesdropping devices at the Port of Durres, the prosecution is conducting investigations for the criminal offenses of illegal eavesdropping and smuggling. The devices were seized in a vehicle in which three Italian citizens were traveling, two of whom turned out to be Guardia di Finanza officials, while the third is thought to have been contracted by them to use the eavesdropping devices.
Despite the institutions refusing to comment, trusted sources for News24 indicate that the itinerary followed by the three Italian citizens has been revealed.
They traveled on the ferry from Bari to Durres and stayed for at least 12 hours in the territory of our country. During this time, there are strong suspicions that they used it to conduct wiretapping of certain subjects. When they attempted to leave on the ferry from Durres to Ancona, the border police discovered the wiretapping devices.
The two Guardia di Finanza officers and the other person were questioned by the authorities and then allowed to leave for Italy. The eavesdropping devices were seized and are expected to undergo an examination. Sources confirm that there have been communications with the Italian side on this issue, after preliminary verifications show that there was no authorization from the Albanian side for the use of the devices in the context of a joint investigation.
