"My father's life between family, politics and sports", Azem Hajdari's son on the student movement

Today marks the commemoration of the Student Movement Day of 1990, one of the most important and historic moments on Albania's path towards political pluralism.
On this day, the figure of Azem Hajdari and his leadership role return to the spotlight, while family members, politicians, including Sali Berisha, honored the contribution of those who challenged the system of the time.
Azem Hajdari's son spoke about his father's figure and how he took over the leadership of the student movement. He described his father as a loving man with children and a skilled politician who was not afraid of anything.
“ My grandfather, being a consequence of the times, thought it impossible for his son to come to Tirana and overthrow the most aggressive system the Balkans has known. He would say: 'Leave these dreams, because it is difficult for this thing'. Azem did not think about today, he was a man who thought long-term, he had no concept of fear. So, Azem set off for Tirana, stepping in front of bullets and risking his life. The day the students became confused, since the situation was impulsive and they did not know where to turn, my father climbed a step higher and guaranteed his two children. 'If I have betrayed you, it is my fault that I betrayed my children'. At that moment he took the leadership, placing a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Academically, he needed much more work to lead this movement. He was a very loving father.
Azem was a wrestler, a political figure who, regardless of the situation, found time to play with my brother. They played so much that my mother turned off the lights. I want to say that young people today have neither less nor more than Azem Hajdari had. For those who say that their vote does not bring change: from one person to two, from two to three and so on. On this day, I remember the heroes of that time, among them my father, "said Azem Hajdari's son.
