"Millions of euros per month!"/ Lala tells how BKH investigators were

Journalist Klodiana Lala, invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, has provided details of SPAK's action in two towers in Tirana, to identify fraudulent call centers, after denouncing an Italian show.

"It was the Le Iene show that in January, arrived at SPAK and handed over to prosecutors some film materials and other data, which spoke of a call center in one of the towers of Tirana. According to them, this call center has defrauded EU citizens.

The investigation was initiated based on the confession of an operator. He claimed in his confession that he was a police officer in Italy who recruited citizens to work in a call center.

Due to the strict security measures, as it was one of the main towers in Tirana, where the Israeli embassy is located, it was impossible for journalists to enter there. They infiltrated a person, who not only provided the card to enter the call center, but also filmed some of the key employees.

Once SPAK managed to secure the material, it approached the court for a search warrant, as there were no suspects yet. The Special Court signed search warrants for 28 premises.

On January 16, BKH agents, without notifying the police, intervened in the first moments. The action was interesting. BKH agents took one of the employees to secure the elevator card, the entrance, since he could not get in. When he went with them, they entered the premises, the investigators were surprised, because in the call center premises, everything was empty.

BKH agents considered it a failure at first, but were also surprised. Then, through specialized techniques, through security cameras, they took the license plates of several vehicles and it turned out that these vehicles had moved the computers from one tower to another.

They were put on the trail and declared wanted. One of the vehicles was stopped and the driver was escorted to the Police. During questioning, it was dismantled and revealed that they had relocated the call center.

Taking the initiative, the agents notified the police and landed at the tower on Elbasan Street. The materials, servers, and cryptocurrency wallets, estimated to be worth 10-12 million per month, were discovered.

At this moment, after the seizure was made, the police arrested 6 people, two others were arrested on their own initiative. Today, 8 people have been released on bail, 6 have been remanded in custody and 2 have been remanded in custody for 20 days. On the other hand, the 3 main organizers, three brothers with the surname Preka. One of them owns a call center company. They have been declared wanted. The police have also seized other evidence.

At the moment when the police intervened in the tower, some of the employees attempted to remove some materials, throwing them into a trash can to cover their tracks.

Unfortunately, fraudulent call centers have become a serious concern. I have had investigative files that have shown this. The millions that are being made are also being laundered in Albania. It should be the focus of the authorities.

The mechanism, inviting European citizens, was convincing them to invest 250 euros initially, but there have been cases where they may have taken up to 1 or 1.5 million euros, with the idea that they had invested in cryptocurrencies, but then disappeared.

"According to conversations with investigators who deal with such cases, it is suspected that 10-12 million euros are transferred to digital wallets in just one month. There may be other months when it is higher. The maximum has been 30 million euros. To focus on this specific case, we must look at the entire activity, but we should not rush to reach conclusions," said Lala.
