Greenland 'ignites' transatlantic tensions/ Johnson: Under our Constitution, Congress must declare war

US President Donald Trump has urged European leaders to focus on Russia and Ukraine, not Greenland.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump reiterated that he would "100%" carry out his threats to impose additional tariffs if a deal is not reached on the Arctic island. Asked if the US would use force to take control of Greenland, he replied curtly: "No comment."
According to reports , regarding Trump's statements, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, emphasized that under the American constitutional system, only Congress has the right to declare war.
“Under our Constitution, Congress must declare war. I do not foresee any scenario where the United States declares war on Greenland,” Johnson said. Asked whether Trump could send troops to Greenland without congressional approval, he added that a large-scale military incursion would necessarily require congressional involvement.
However, Trump has shown no sign of backing down from his claims to the Arctic island. In a post on his Truth Social platform, he wrote that NATO has been asking Denmark for 20 years to confront what he calls the “Russian threat” in Greenland.
"NATO has been telling Denmark for 20 years that the Russian threat must leave Greenland. Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now the time has come and we will!" Trump wrote.
