Turkish authorities announced today the arrest of 234 suspects as part of a large-scale international operation against organized crime.
"234 members of important organized crime groups were arrested, 225 domestically and 9 abroad," Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated, explaining that the arrests abroad were carried out in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Belgium.
Among those arrested are members of organizations involved in the trafficking of cocaine, heroin and ecstasy on several continents, the Interior Minister added.
Over 21 tons of drugs and assets worth 13 billion Turkish liras (around 300 million euros) have been seized.
"We are dealing with a large-scale international network," Yerlikaya stressed, adding that the suspects are accused of a range of criminal offenses, including drug trafficking, money laundering and murder.
"As part of this operation, information and documents were shared with the police of France, England, Australia, the United States, Greece, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Kosovo, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Brazil and Iran," the Turkish minister further explained.
