Massive landslide in Durrës/ Authorities increase security measures,

A day after the massive landslide on Kodër Currila, authorities have increased security measures in the affected area.

The Municipality of Durrës has expanded the security perimeter, while police forces are not allowing citizens to pass through or residents to enter their apartments due to the danger posed by the unstable terrain.

Residents of the building near the landslide area continue to stay away from their apartments, while businesses that suffered damage from the landslides and pine trees have suspended work since yesterday.

This Saturday, specialists from the Albanian Construction Institute and Geological Service are expected to arrive on site again, who will take samples to begin procedures for the detailed geological and geotechnical study of the area.

According to the Municipality of Durrës, two working groups led by the Construction Institute will be engaged in parallel on the ground. One group will conduct a preliminary assessment of the condition of the building to identify possible structural damage, while the other group will carry out measurements and analyses that will serve to draft the expert report and the project necessary for the reinforcement and stabilization of the territory.

At the same time, the Construction Institute has established a special team of experts to conduct a full expertise of the building and determine its security level.

On Friday afternoon, it was announced that the 25 families residing in this facility will not be allowed to return to their apartments until the completion of technical assessments and confirmation by responsible institutions that the building is safe to inhabit.

There are 25 families identified as using this residential facility out of the 40 apartments in the building.
