Approval of amnesty for 447 prisoners postponed, response from the European

447 prisoners benefiting from amnesty will have to wait for approval from Brussels.

And while this amnesty approved by the government in December is scheduled on the Assembly's work calendar to be discussed in parliamentary committees during April, this will likely not happen.

Government sources told Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu that the postponement of the amnesty discussion is a result of waiting for a response from the European Commission.

" We are awaiting a response from the DGR at the European Commission on the amnesty draft law, just as is being done with other draft laws that must receive Brussels' approval before being discussed in parliament, " a government source emphasized after Top Channel inquired about the reason for this delay in discussing the amnesty in parliament.

In addition to the 447 prisoners benefiting from this amnesty, there will be a reduction in sentence for 853 other prisoners.

Meanwhile, the Probation Service amnesties 5,077 prisoners sentenced to alternative measures.

The amnesty bill also provides that starting in 2024, criminal prosecution for a total of 14,000 proceedings for minor offenses will be discontinued.
