72 dead from the floods, Spain declares three days of national mourning

The Spanish government declared three days of national mourning on Wednesday after floods killed more than 72 people in southeastern Spain, mainly in Valencia.
These three days of mourning will begin on Thursday, October 31 and will last until Saturday, November 2, Victor Torres, Minister of Territorial Policy, told English media, adding that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will go on Thursday to the area affected by the floods.
Rescue operations continue in southern and eastern Spain, but have been hampered by downed power lines that cut power, as well as collapsed telephone networks and roads that remain impassable.
Meteorologists said a year's worth of rain fell within eight hours in parts of Valencia on Tuesday, causing highway gridlock and flooding of farmland in a region that produces two-thirds of the citrus fruit grown in Spain, one of the top global exporters.
