Washington's Ambassador to NATO: Russia May Never Want Peace

The US ambassador to NATO has stated that Russia may never be ready to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, which the Kremlin started nearly four years ago.
"I think the Ukrainians are ready to make a reasonable deal now, which would be fair given the circumstances," US Ambassador Matthew Whitaker said during a discussion on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
"But I'm just not convinced that the Russians are willing to make a deal, that it will happen one day," he added.
Notably, this message appears to be the opposite of that sent by US President Donald Trump a few hours earlier yesterday.
The Republican urged his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to rush to reach an agreement with Moscow so as not to "miss the great opportunity" presented to him, ahead of the next round of negotiations under US auspices in Geneva next Tuesday.
