Immigrants, minister before the Senate! USA, protests continue near the immigrant center in Newark

US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has appeared before the Senate to provide explanations on immigration policies and conditions in centers where detained immigrants are held.

The debate comes after protests took place near an immigrant detention center in Newark, New Jersey. Protesters have raised concerns about the conditions of people being held there.

A few days ago, the minister warned that he could temporarily block the entry of international flights into Newark airport if security near the immigrant center was not guaranteed.

He later abandoned this idea, after local authorities took additional security measures.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party is demanding even more money to strengthen controls on illegal immigration and increase the number of deportations.

According to the plan, another $72 billion will be needed over the next three years.

According to official data, around 56,000 people are currently held in immigration detention centers across the United States.

The issue has also received great attention due to the football World Cup, which starts on June 11.

Millions of visitors are expected to travel to the US, and Newark Airport is one of the main entry points into the country.

Airlines and businesses have warned that any restrictions at the airport would create problems for passengers and freight transport.
