Citizens filled the Boulevard yesterday/ Third non-partisan protest begins, large turnout
The third protest in a row has begun in Tirana, against construction in the Zvërnec protected area. The rally was called in front of the Prime Minister's Office, following a series of protests that have begun in recent days in the capital.
The day before, thousands of citizens first gathered near the Ministry of Interior and then marched towards the government building, in a protest that took place on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard. Participants conveyed the message “More tomorrow,” warning of further mobilization.
Protesters are demanding the cancellation of the construction project in the Zvërnec area, calling it an encroachment on a protected area and accusing the government of favoring private interests over public property. On the other hand, they claim that various investors are profiting from state-owned land unfairly.
Tensions were also reported during Saturday's protest in Zvërnec, where private security guards used violence against protesters and a citizen was dragged away, which prompted reactions and further escalation of dissatisfaction.
At the rally held in front of the Prime Minister's Office, citizens chanted slogans such as "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison", "Albania of Albanians, death to traitors", and "Albania is not for sale" while demanding the halt to the project in Zvërnec and the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
