Al Nahyan, the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, owns 6% of the world's oil reserves and their investments are behind thousands of companies: from Manchester City's football team to SpaceX and pop star Rihanna's clothing company. According to analysts' estimates, Al Nahyan surpassed the American Waltons in 2023 and became the richest family in the world. It's the first time in five years that this order has changed, and Walmart's heirs have moved into second place.

The family, led by the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, strategically invests in various businesses around the world and supports ideas and projects that sustainably increase their wealth.

UAE National Security Adviser Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, commonly called Sheikh Tahnoun, is the man who oversees the assets and plays a critical role in the family's wealth. He heads International Holding Co., a conglomerate that employs tens of thousands of people and has a market value of about $235 billion, making it one of the largest companies in the Middle East. International Holding Co. owns hundreds of businesses in various sectors including agriculture, energy, entertainment and shipping.

One of their superyachts is so big they play golf on it, their mansion is three times the size of the Pentagon, and their fleet of private jets can rival an airline. 

The Al Nahyan family lives in Qaṣr Al-Waṭan, a $490 million presidential palace, which is also open to the public, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Middle East. 

The 380,000-square-foot palace has a facade of white granite and limestone. Inside, it houses a high dome 37 meters wide and a chandelier made of 350,000 pieces of crystal. 

The construction of the palace was completed in 2017 and opened to the public in 2019.

Its eastern wing contains the "House of Knowledge", which houses objects of cultural, religious and political importance, while the western wing is used for official meetings.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's personal collection alone boasts a Boeing 747 worth $478 million and a Boeing 787 worth $176 million with enough space for the entire royal family.
