Hantavirus "wakes up" French authorities, alarm again issued on mask use

French health authorities are on alert after five French citizens were repatriated from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which was hit by hantavirus. One of the passengers showed symptoms during the flight, forcing authorities to take emergency measures.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneille confirmed that the passenger has been immediately placed in isolation, along with the other four, pending test results. All are being kept under medical observation and are undergoing tests to determine whether they have hantavirus.
The French government has announced additional preventive measures, including the isolation of close contacts, to avoid any risk of spread.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has issued guidelines for the management of exposed passengers and crew.
Protective measures such as the use of gloves, FFP2 masks, eye protection and good ventilation of the premises. Spain has also requested additional assistance from the EU, while the ECDC has sent experts to support coordination and preparedness measures in the Canary Islands.
