Corruption in Mitsotakis' government, early elections demanded

A massive corruption scandal over agricultural subsidies has rocked Greek politics, prompting calls for early elections and putting pressure on the government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The scandal, involving around 300 million euros illegally embezzled through a state subsidies agency, has led to the resignation of several government ministers and prompted investigations by the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

The investigations also include 20 members of the Neo Democracy party and the request for the lifting of immunity for 11 MPs, among them senior figures such as the former Minister of Agriculture and the former Minister of Civil Protection.

Mitsotakis has described this event as a "turning point" in the battle against corruption, acknowledging that the Greek political system has been filled with clientelism and political favoritism, but has called for justice to act quickly to clarify the case and hold those responsible accountable.

On the other hand, criticism of the government has increased, with many analysts and academics seeing this as an attempt to avoid responsibility and control political damage, while calls for early elections have spread in Greece.
