Rising prices and fuel shortages have become one of the main topics of discussion in Australia in recent days.

According to reports, hundreds of gas stations in the country have run out of gasoline and diesel, while prices for the available quantity have increased by up to 85% compared to the pre-conflict period, the BBC reports.

Authorities in the state of Victoria have announced a relief measure for citizens.

They have been informed that public transport will be free throughout April. The decision aims to help families cope with the rising cost of living and at the same time reduce pressure on fuel demand.

The Prime Minister of the state has emphasized that this initiative is expected to encourage more citizens to use buses, trains and trams, reducing dependence on private vehicles.

Meanwhile, federal authorities in Canberra have stated that the shortages are not related to a drop in supply, but to panic buying by consumers.

In the state of Queensland, a similar model has been applied since mid-2024, where public transport costs a flat fee of 50 cents.

Initially temporary, this measure became permanent after a significant increase in passenger numbers and a decrease in car use.
