European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has caused reactions with a statement given to the Spanish newspaper El País , harshly criticizing the MAGA Movement, associated with US President Donald Trump.
In her interview, Kos said that the European Union is facing not only "autocrats" like Russia, but also tensions coming from the West, specifically from the MAGA ("Make America Great Again") ideology, which she accused of trying to convince Europeans that European civilization, economy, and democracy are in decline.
Kos used the term "hybrid warfare" to describe the challenges she believes the European Union faces, arguing that attacks now come not only from abroad, but also through ideological narratives circulating in the West.
Her statement is expected to further fuel the debate over how the European establishment treats conservative movements in the US and Europe, especially those associated with Trump and the MAGA platform.

"We have opponents who would like to see us fail, who would like the candidates to fail, but the main target is us, the European Union. I am referring to Russia and other autocrats. And, for the first time, we are exposed to a hybrid war that attacks not only the candidates, but also the EU itself.
"We also feel the tensions coming from the West, from the MAGA ('Make America Great Again') ideology, which tries to convince us that European civilization is in decline, that our economy is in decline, that our democracy is in decline. This is a new element and, again, we have to be smart in how we respond."
