The VALEN coalition with 5 Albanian parties in North Macedonia transforms into a single party with 2 chairmen
Five Albanian political parties that are part of the government coalition officially merged into a single political entity.
For the first time in the history of Albanian political pluralism in North Macedonia, the VELEN party will have two leaders, Bilall Kasami and Izet Mexhiti.
At the congress where the merger of the coalition parties was decided, it was said that VLEN had transformed into a single party, into a common political home, into a force that unites around a vision for the future, where decision-making will not depend on a single leader.
New political culture
The co-chair of the VLEN party, Izet Mexhiti, said that this party will follow a new model of functioning, distancing itself from the mythologizing of political leaders. The model that VLEN is following is similar to European systems, where power is not concentrated in the individual, but in the leadership team.
"VLEN is bringing a new democratic spirit to this underworld, not based on the individual, the power is with the entire VLEN leadership and not concentrated on one individual. It is not a model that we invented, it is a model that works successfully in European countries. For the first time in many years, Albanians are feeling that the weight of their vote is turning into real political weight, into real representation, into decision-making force, and this is the reason why this union has historical significance. The two leaders will lead this party, not as a division, but as a balance, not as a compromise but as a guarantee, that no one is above the common will within VLEN," said the newly elected co-chairman Izet Mexhiti.
No to politics that lives off quarrels
VLEN will not be a mere union of parties, if that is all that remains, then we have done nothing, said the other co-chair Bilall Kasami. VLEN will be a new political culture of Albanians in North Macedonia. It will be calmer, more serious, more institutional and responsible towards the citizen. According to Bilall Kasami, Albanians do not need politics that lives off quarrels, Albanians need politics that builds, plans and thinks beyond a single mandate.
"We believe in the family as the first place where a person learns trust, responsibility and love for others. We believe in honest work, in the person who gets up early to support their family, in the entrepreneur who takes risks, creates and does not expect everything from the state. We believe in our identity, in language, in culture, in faith and in those spiritual values that have kept us together even in times when we had few opportunities, but a lot of dignity. We believe in a modern state, in institutions that function, in professional administration, in justice that is equal for all, not mother to one and stepmother to another", said the co-chair of VALEN Bilall Kasami.
Kurti: VLEN demonstrated political responsibility
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was also present at the VLEN Congress in Skopje. Kurti assessed the unification of the five Albanian political entities as having special political and social weight.
"We are used to seeing divisions, political fragmentation into new formations in politics very often. Therefore, it is much rarer and more significant when several different entities achieve the will, vision and maturity to unite into a single political body. This, in addition to proving political responsibility, constitutes a new model of cooperation for political organizations operating in the region," Kurti said.
VLEN also elected two vice-chairmen of the party with a majority of votes: Bekim Çoku and Mimoza Musa, while Bekim Sali was elected Secretary General of the party./DW
