There is no peace without Donbas! Results of the Russia-Ukraine meeting in Abu Dhabi

Ukrainian and Russian negotiators met in Abu Dhabi to address the vital issue of territory, with no sign of compromise, as Russian attacks plunged Ukraine into its deepest energy crisis of the four-year war.

Kiev is under increasing pressure from the US to reach a peace deal in the war sparked by Russia's invasion since February 2022, with Moscow demanding that Kiev relinquish its entire eastern industrial zone of Donbas before it will stop fighting.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the territorial dispute will be a top priority of talks in the United Arab Emirates.  

The talks, expected to last two days, are taking place against a backdrop of intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system, which have cut off electricity and heating in major cities such as Kiev, while temperatures are below zero degrees.
