Clashes in Turin, dozens injured and arrests, Meloni convenes the government for

At least two people have been arrested and several others have been released after violent clashes broke out during a pro-Askatasuna demonstration in Turin. Italian media reported that around 10 people were taken to the police station for questioning.

According to health authorities, the number of injured has reached 103, including 29 law enforcement officers, who were taken to various hospitals in the city. According to local media, their condition appears stable and they are expected to be discharged from the hospital.

Following the incident, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Turin, where she met with police and military personnel involved in the clashes, as well as the injured at the Molinette Hospital, in the presence of the president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio. She announced that she had called a government meeting tomorrow to address security threats.

"As for the Government, I have called a meeting for tomorrow morning to discuss the latest threats to public order and to assess the new provisions of the security decree. We will do what is necessary to restore order in this country," the prime minister wrote on social media, posting a photo from her visit to Le Molinette Hospital in Turin, "to express, on behalf of Italy, solidarity for two of the officers injured in yesterday's clashes."

She stressed that the events in Turin cannot be considered protests, but organized criminal acts, requiring a decisive response from justice and institutions to guarantee public order and safety.

"Now let me be clear. These are not protesters. These are organized criminals. When you hit someone with a hammer, you do so knowing that the consequences could be very, very serious. This is not a protest, this is not a clash. It is called attempted murder. I expect the judiciary to assess these incidents for what they are, without hesitation, applying the existing rules that allow for a determined response, so that nothing happens when those responsible are reported, as has unfortunately happened many times," she added.

"If the police had responded to the attackers, they would already be under investigation and there would likely be some precautionary measures against them. But if we cannot protect those who protect us, the rule of law does not exist."
