Epstein scandal, Hilary and Bill Clinton to testify in Congress

Former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have agreed to testify in the congressional investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The decision comes days before a scheduled vote in the House of Representatives to hold the Clintons accountable for refusing to appear before the House Oversight Committee after a months-long standoff.
Bill Clinton was acquainted with Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, but has denied any knowledge of his sex crimes and says he cut off contact with him about two decades ago.
It is not yet clear when the testimony will take place, but it will be the first time a former US president has testified before a congressional panel since Gerald Ford in 1983. On Monday evening, Bill Clinton's deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña, posted on the X platform confirming that the pair will appear before the committee.
“They negotiated in good faith,” Ureña wrote in a post to the House Oversight Committee. “You didn’t. They told you under oath what they know, but you don’t care. However, the former President and the former Secretary of State will be there. They are looking forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.”
Both Clintons say they have previously given sworn statements to the committee and have already provided the “limited information” they have on Epstein. The couple had dismissed the legal subpoenas as “nothing more than a ploy to embarrass political rivals, as ordered by President Trump.”
Bill Clinton has never been accused of wrongdoing by Epstein's abuse survivors and has denied any knowledge of his sex crimes. Epstein's private jet records show that Clinton took four international flights in 2002 and 2003. The former president also appears at the late financier's estate in several photos, including one of him swimming in a pool, while another shows him lying on his back with his hands behind his head in what appears to be a hot tub.
