From the former director of AKM to the leaders of "Kurum" / The prosecution requests security measures for dozens of people in the toxic waste case

New details come to light from the joint operation of the Durrës and Tirana Police to implement security measures regarding the issue of hazardous waste from the "Kurum" company, where the focus of the investigation has also shifted to the role of state officials.

According to sources, a total of 33 security measures have been signed within the framework of this criminal proceeding, which include not only managers and representatives of the "Kurum" company, but also officials of public institutions, specifically the National Environmental Agency (KTA) and Customs.

According to the Durrës Prosecution Office, the investigation into the smuggling of hazardous waste to Thailand revealed massive violations of environmental legislation by the companies "Kurum International" and "Sokolaj" as well as by the National Environment Agency, Durrës Customs and the concession company of the eastern terminal at the port of Durrës.

Of the 33 measures given, 26 are "prison arrest", while 7 measures are "house arrest".

Among the persons who have been placed under "house arrest" is Arta Dollani, former director of the National Environmental Agency, suspected of involvement in procedures related to the permitting and management of waste exports.

The investigation is related to the export of 102 containers of hazardous waste to Thailand, which were then returned to Albania after a warning from the Basel Network, which monitors the international movement of hazardous waste.

The prosecution suspects that legal regulations and environmental procedures were violated in this process, while the specific role of KTA and Customs officials in granting authorizations and facilitating procedures for the export of waste is being investigated.

Authorities indicate that investigations are ongoing and that the list of persons under investigation may be expanded, while a more detailed official announcement on criminal offenses and individual responsibilities is expected.
