Tensions in the region and escalation of attacks/ Increase in fuel prices in Bulgaria, caused by the war in Iran

Fuel prices in Bulgaria have increased significantly during the first five weeks of the war in the Middle East, with diesel rising by 37% and gasoline by 18.7%.
According to data published by the National Revenue Agency, the average price of oil reached 1.74 euros per liter yesterday, up from 1.27 euros on February 28, when the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran.
Meanwhile, A95 gasoline rose to 1.46 euros per liter, from 1.23 euros in the same period. The price increase is directly related to tensions in the region and the sudden increase in crude oil prices in international markets, following the escalation of the conflict and retaliatory attacks by Iran.
To mitigate the impact on citizens, the caretaker government led by Andrey Gurov has approved a compensation scheme, under which consumers can benefit from 20 euros per month if the price of fuel exceeds 1.60 euros per liter for three consecutive days.
This measure was activated on March 24, when the average oil price reached this threshold. The compensation is aimed primarily at citizens with lower incomes, based on the poverty lines for the years 2024 and 2025. Minister of Labor Hasan Ademov announced that around 50,900 applications have been submitted for this assistance, while the number is expected to exceed 60,000 in the coming days.
