One person was killed and another was seriously injured after two helicopters collided in mid-air in southern New Jersey, US, on Sunday, authorities said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it is a mid-air collision between two aircraft. Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel said emergency services were notified at around 11:25 a.m. of a plane crash.
Police and firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the flames that had engulfed one of the helicopters. One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while another was rushed to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.
Video footage from the scene shows a helicopter circling rapidly before crashing to the ground.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and have launched investigations to determine the cause of the accident. Authorities have not yet released details on the identities of the victims or the reasons that led to the air crash.
