Iran softens, confirms April 16 as next round of talks with US

The next round of negotiations between the United States and Iran could be held in Pakistan on April 16, The Atlantic reported, citing a source in Tehran.

The two countries held talks in Islamabad on Saturday, after US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire agreement with Tehran.

On Sunday morning, US Vice President JD Vance stated that Iran and the United States had not reached an agreement after 21 hours of negotiations.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that efforts to resolve disputes between the United States and Iran are still underway, even though recent talks in Islamabad failed to reach a final agreement.

Prime Minister Sharif stressed that the current ceasefire is the result of his country's efforts, adding that work continues to address several issues that remain unresolved.

He described the process as delicate, but with visible progress.

Sharif underlined the historic significance of these talks, noting that it was the first time in 47 years that delegations from the two countries sat face to face for direct negotiations.

He added that the discussions lasted about 21 hours and at some points were close to total failure.

Despite this, Pakistan has stated that it will continue to play the role of mediator to promote dialogue and avoid further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

The country is credited with playing a significant role in achieving the two-week ceasefire announced last week.
