What was sold and bought the most last year?

Neighborhood stores, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, and especially gas stations, sold more products at the end of last year. Data from the Statistical Institute shows that retail sales in the fourth quarter of 2024 expanded by 7.8 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

The largest contribution to this performance was made by fuel demand.

Last year, oil was imported like never before… more than 657 thousand tons. Compared to 2023, the amount of fuel entering the country increased by about 43 thousand tons or 7 percent. Unlike before, oil imports last year were concentrated in humid India, thus replacing neighboring Italy.

Impact on the expansion of imports throughout the year in general and the fourth quarter in particular, the import of vehicles and food products.

"At the end of the year there is an increase due to the holidays. February and March are generally weak," says a fruit and vegetable trader.

In the latter, more than from Albanians, the expansion of sales came from foreign tourists. "How can we buy at these prices. Seasonal tomatoes and they cost 1,500 lekë. We don't know what's going on," the citizens say.

Excluding fuel, retail sales in the fourth quarter of last year expanded by 5.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
