Applications open for the agriculture scheme, 5.2 billion lekë/ Livestock

The Ministry of Agriculture has opened applications for the National Agriculture Scheme for this year today, giving farmers the opportunity to benefit from support for livestock, beekeeping or even crops. The news was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who wrote in a post on social networks that this scheme is a concrete step to support domestic production.

"Another concrete step to support domestic production, the formalization and sustainable development of Albanian agriculture," Rama writes.

The Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, calls on farmers to apply through the e-Albania portal to benefit from 12 support measures offered under the new national scheme.

"Together we created the national scheme. It's time to apply for 12 support measures. On May 25th we open the national call, apply," said Salla.

This year's scheme comes with a fund of 5.2 billion lek and aims to finance small farms as well. With the new scheme, the number of cattle that a farmer must have to benefit has been halved. 12 thousand lek for each head of cow will be received by those farmers who have herds of no less than 5 cattle, last year it was 10 thousand lek for herds of no less than 10 heads. Meanwhile, for small farms, the funding has increased from 1200 lek to 1,500 lek per head for herds of no less than 50 heads, from 100 heads under the old scheme.

For the first time, funding will also be available for sows at 7 thousand lek per head, for those with a herd of no less than 5 heads. As for beekeeping, funding is doubled to 20 thousand lek per hive, for farms with no less than 25 hives, from 50 hives that was the requirement until last year.

The new scheme removed tax-free oil. Farmers will no longer benefit from reduced-price oil, as the Ministry of Agriculture assessed that this scheme has not fully functioned, and there have been abuses.

Meanwhile, farmers must receive an invoice from collectors or agritourism businesses when they sell their products to them, in order to benefit from the 10% compensation that will begin on July 1.
