The US is in an egg crisis/ Market shortages have increased prices,...

The United States government is seeking eggs from around the world to alleviate a severe shortage that has sent egg prices to record levels.
Germany is one of the countries that has significantly increased egg exports to the United States.
However, the European country is unable to send a large quantity of eggs since it imports them itself.
Eggs produced in Germany only cover about 73% of eggs consumed, and imports from the Netherlands cover consumer needs.
Italy, Poland and Sweden are among the countries that the US Department of Agriculture has asked to increase exports.
In Poland, veterinary officials are trying to determine whether the country and its farmers can meet U.S. certification requirements for imported eggs.
However, Donald Trump's tariffs have made it difficult to export many goods to the US.
Many officials in Europe say that egg exports are not exempt from tariffs.
In addition, American food safety regulations require that fresh eggs be disinfected and refrigerated before reaching buyers; in the European Union, safety standards require that grade A eggs be sold unwashed and unrefrigerated.
Eggs are not cleaned in most of the 27 EU member states due to concerns that removing a protective layer from the eggshell makes them more vulnerable to bacteria.
American law requires exactly the opposite.
European countries themselves do not have many surplus eggs due to the spread of bird flu and rising domestic demand ahead of Easter.
