Jeton Sylaj, Arlinda Zekaj's ex-husband, has opposed the imposition of a month's detention on him, arguing that his 12-year-old son needs his care.

During the court session, Sylaj expressed regret for the murder of his ex-wife, for which his brother, Albert Sylaj, who is now in detention, is suspected.

According to statements included in the court's decision, Jeton Sylaj claimed that he had tried to prevent the tragic event.

"I regret what happened, I tried to prevent it," he is quoted as saying to the jury.

In his objection to the detention order, Sylaj stressed that he does not know where his minor son is and that the child needs his care. He also stated that his travel documents were under the control of the authorities or had been taken from him by the deceased, claiming that he had no way of leaving.

However, according to the Prosecution's file, Sylaj admitted to the prosecutor that he had addressed threatening words to his ex-wife, justifying that his actions were related to the protection of their 12-year-old son.

Documents show that the case was initiated on July 10, 2026, after Arlinda Zekaj had reported Sylaj for domestic violence and threats. Meanwhile, on July 14, during his appearance at the police station, the suspect chose not to declare himself, saying that he would present the facts to the state prosecutor. Sylaj opposed detention, but was left in a cell.
